Food Pack for Haiti OrphansSaturday February 18th, 2012 in Founders Hall
Peace Lutheran is partnering with Worldwide Hunger Relief and Food For The Poor to pack and ship 50,000 meals to orphans in Haiti! To accomplish this mighty task, we will need about 230 volunteers who are willing to work a 90 minute shift. The work is simple, rewarding and fun, and can be done by kids as young as 8 or as old as 98 (give or take a few years). There are even sit down jobs for those who cannot stand for ninety minutes! What a great way to kick off Peace Lutheran's 50th Anniversary Celebration by participating in the largest service project in our church's history!
Our goal is to fill three 90 minute shifts: 9:00am-10:30am 10:30am-12:00pm 12:00pm-1:30pm
Each shift will have 10 stations with 7 to 8 people at each station. The goal at each station will be to pack 7 or 8 boxes, each containing 36 bags. Each bag will contain a measured amount of uncooked rice plus dehydrated soy and vegetables. Vitamins and minerals are added to make the meal more nutritious. Each bag, when cooked with water, will provide enough food to feed a family of 6, or in our case, 6 or more orphans. In total we hope to pack enough fortified rice-soy meal packages to provide 50,000 meals for orphans and children in Haiti.
By purchasing the supplies in bulk through Worldwide Hunger Relief, each meal only costs 12 cents each! Can you imagine feeding a family of six for only 72 cents! The total cost for 50,000 meals is only six thousand dollars! So, in addition to signing up 230 volunteers, we also need to raise $6,000. All of this is totally doable as we work together to attain this worthy and God pleasing goal of feeding orphans in Haiti. These orphanages would not be able to feed the children without donated food. You can be a blessing to them by providing this vital food. Won't you please consider making a donation today?
Don't forget to save the date....February 18th ... This will be a great opportunity to invite family and friends to help with a wonderful service project! If you have any questions, please contact Marilyn Thompson at 262-679-0916 or mtmt@wi.rr.com. Thanks!
