FAQ - Guatemala Mission Trip for 2009
When are you going?
May 21-31st, 2009. And there is still some room! Let Marilyn Thompson or Mike
Paddock know ASAP if you are interested.
Where do you stay?
We are staying with community members in their homes. This will require you to
bring a sleeping bag and mat or cot but in return you will receive an experience
that is priceless.
What do you do for food?
The food will be made by the community for us - so it will be "real Guatemalan
food".
What does it cost?
$900, which covers everything except souvenirs
Is a passport required?
Yes, so apply for one now if you are interested in going.
What kind of work do you do?
We will be building a school for the community Xol Pachaj. They currently have
45 students in a one room school for grades 1-4. We will be building a 4 room
school for grades 1-6. The enrollment will be 80. We will be working with the
people of the community to start this school. The community will finish the
project under the supervision of a head mason.
How much building experience do I
need?
None, but we do require a willing spirit and teachable heart.
What will we do besides build a
school?
We will spend a day in Antigua, Guatemala, which is a very pleasant, historic
Spanish settlement. If time allows, we will also visit a Mayan ruins, a
traditional Mayan market, a school previously built by Peace and should have
time to maybe even climb an active volcano, if you choose.
