Local Missions
Peace has been involved in a variety of missions close to home, from food pantry work in New Berlin and Milwaukee to helping out at a local homeless shelter in Waukesha. We have also sent teens and adults to serve at meal programs in Milwaukee and paint at an inner city Lutheran School. We have tried to highlight a wide range of programs that help all age groups in Waukesha and Milwaukee counties.
One of our goals is to create awareness for the different non-profit organizations in our area, to match up both the needs and abilities of our congregation for service. There are numerous volunteer opportunities available for anyone with a heart for service. The variety is endless and there is a task for every ability level. We are the hands and feet of Jesus!
Cooperating Congregations for Waukesha County Currently we are raising awareness and funds for Cooperating Congregations for Waukesha County. CCWC has a variety of programs to help the people of Waukesha County, from day care, rent assistance, meal programs to a career closet that helps people get that needed outfit to make a good impression for a job interview or start a job.
Angel Tree For several years, Peace has been involved in The Angel Tree Project through Prison Fellowship. Every Christmas Peace members purchase, wrap and deliver gifts to local children who have a parent serving time in prison. This rewarding program helps to keep a bond between the incarcerated parent and their child who is missing their mom or dad at Christmas time. It is also an opportunity to share Jesus with the children.
Habitat for Humanity This summer and fall, various members of Peace have worked on our second Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity House located at 3122 N 6th street in Milwaukee. From framing week in May to the finish (hopefully by Thanksgiving) the work is fun and fulfilling. Peace has plans to work with Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity for at least two more years helping to provide decent and affordable housing to families in Milwaukee.
